Posted on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 by Arun Basil Lal

Quick Online Tips Feedburner, being a comprehensive service which includes both Feed Burning and Email Subscription Options along with Tracking and Analysis, is the most preffered service by bloggers. Presently, Feedburner is a Google owned add-free facility with built-in integration with Blogger and other Google products. On the contrary, Feedblitz is a dedicated Email Delivery agent, which is add-supported but free.

Send SMS to any Mobile Right From Your Inbox

Posted on Monday, August 11, 2008 by Arun Basil Lal

Email To SMS160by2 provides an Email to SMS facility which let you send SMS to any mobile number within India right from your Email client, thereby saving you from the trouble of a separate pageload and login. 160by2 will deliver the message in packets of 80 characters (each SMS will contain 80 characters of the message) and the delivery is almost instant. We tested this facility and we received the SMS within 30 seconds. You will also get an Email from 160by2 that confirms the delivery of your SMS.

Before you can start sending Email SMS's, you will need a 160by2 account. Signup is free and will not take more than 5 minutes. During signup, you have to provide the Email id from which you are planning to send SMS.

To Send SMS via your Email, the message has to be formatted as described below.
  • The recipient should be recipient’s mobile number, followed by @160by2.com so that it reads <receiver mobile number>@160by2.com. For example: If the recipient is 9995394558 then the recipient Email address in your Email program must look like 9995394558@160by2.com
  • The Subject line must be your username of 160by2 or your mobile number that you used to signup with 160by2. If the Email address and the username or mobile number does not match, an Email from 160by2 will report the failure of delivery.
The greatest advantage of this service is that the SMS can be sent irrespective of the email program you use. So even if your employer blocks all email services except the company email, you can signup with 160by2 with the company email and then send SMS to all your friends.

Feedblitz has some Unique Subscription Options

Posted on Saturday, August 09, 2008 by Arun Basil Lal

We had been using Feedblitz email delivery service even before Million Clues! was born went live. But it’s only recently that we noticed some unique subscription options available with Feedblitz, which are hard to be found elsewhere, including Feedburner. In addition to regular email, Feedblitz can send content updates to Twitter, Skype and Instant Messengers like AOL Messenger, Microsoft Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger (see image)

Subscription Options of Feedblitz Email Service Regardless the method of subscription, each one needs verification, so you can be assured against spammers. If email delivery is chosen, a confirmation link is sent to the email address provided for validating the user. Every other service has its own kind of verification to ensure that the user is the valid owner of the email address provided. For instance, when Yahoo! Messenger is chosen, the user is asked to add a friend with the name ‘FeedBlitz.Alerts’ and send a instant message with content ‘OK 124738’ to this friend.

So if you do not check your email regularly, then you can choose any one of these alternatives to subscribe to a blog. This is another reason to use Feedblitz Email Service rather than Feedburner Email.

Send Free SMS To Any Mobile In India Using GPRS

Posted on Monday, February 11, 2008 by Arun Basil Lal

Do you have a Mobile phone with a GPRS connection.. ? Then this is for you. A website named www.160by2.com is offering a service whcih allows users to send sms to any mobile number in India for free. Your message can be 80 characters long. The remaining 80 characters is filled up by advertisments chosen by 160by2. So basically its a new kind of advertising program. And now you know why it is named 160/2. 80 for the user and 80 for the advertiser

Here is the procedure :

  • Visit 160by2.com from your desktop, and sign up giving your personal details and mobile no.
  • You will recieve a password as sms on that mobile number and will be asked to change the password
  • Go to 160by2.com from your web browser on the mobile and sign in with the username and password.
  • Type in the recepient's mobile no. and the message and click on send.
  • You are done !

Some Good things about 160by2 :

  • The service is free.
  • Messages are delivered really fast.
  • We can make a contact list online, so its easy to add recepients.
  • And 80 characters is a decent length.
  • The mobile version of 160by2 uses very less bandwidth ( about 4 kb ). So those who are charged per kb of data transfer wont be charged.

Some not things about 160by2 :

  • There is no option to count the no. of characters. So you do not know whether you reached 80 or not. And even if we exceed 80 characters the message is sent with the first 80 charchaters. One way to get rid of this problem is to type the message in the phone's ' Write Message ' area ( The place where we write the normal sms's, there we have a character counter ) and copy the text to 160by2.
  • This is available in India only. No International SMS is possible.

Google.org - The Philanthropic Wing of Google

Posted on Monday, January 01, 2007 by Arun Basil Lal

Google is a multi billion organisation made to serve the people of the world. Google has got an award winning policy to 'DO NO EVIL'. To bring this policy into action google has got a separate wing that reaches out to the billions of needy people around the globe who needs a helping hand.
Sergey Brin & Larry Page, the founders of Google, hope that  someday Google.org will be more famous than Google.com.

In their words...
" We hope that someday this institution will eclipse Google itself in overall world impact by ambitiously applying innovation and significant resources to the largest of the world's problems. "

Google.org brings out the works of Google Foundation that uses Google's talent, technology and resources to solve the problems faced by mankind. It also supports several profit and non-profit organisations. Several potential areas like global poverty, enviornment and energy related issues are given thrust.

To fight poverty it has got the 'Acumen Fund'. A program named 'TechnoServe' supports enterpreneurs.  'Water Research' is another program that deals with issues related to the availability of good quality water.
For India Google has the program 'PlanetRead'. This organisation works to improve the literacy in India. ( Thank you Google ! )
A program named Google Grants (

Feedblitz For Webmasters - Let Your readers read Your own newsletter

Posted on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 by Arun Basil Lal

All people connected to the internet do these things. 1. Send emails 2. Search the internet. Its only after these things pople go to read websites for informative contents in general. Most of the people first check their inbox, once they connect to the internet.

Webmasters or publishers will expect people to visit their websites. But only very few people will be really intrested in doing that daily. If one has a dial-up connection or some other narrow band connections, it will be a hard task for the readers to check your website daily for updates. Instead readers will be intrested in recieving the updated content directly delivred to them in their inbox. If you are a webpublisher or a blogger, feedblitz comes for your help.

Feedblitz ( at feedblitz.com ) is basically a free service that enables a user to subsribe to a website with a rss feed functionality or a atom feed functionality. Usually every blog or website has one or both of these. Webmasters can sign up for a free account and syndicate their website or blog. Feedblitz will give you the html code for a subscribtion applet ( like one found here ! ) which you can place on your website. Now your readers can subscribe to your website and recieve the updates to their inbox..

Feedblitz scans your rss or atom feed ( which is automatically updated as you update your website ) once a day ( for free sign-ups ) and tracks changes. The new content is sent to the readers automatically without any effort from the publisher so that the publisher can keep working on more content !
With feedblitz you can decide how much content must be delivered. I have set it to full feed so that my readers will get the full content in their inbox. You can reduce this to any number of characters if you expect your readers to come to your webite to read.

Feedblitz also offers premium services which requires you to pay a fee. With that you can customize the e-mails sent to your readers. Thanks to such quality service

cyborgname.com - Get your technical name...

Posted on Saturday, November 11, 2006 by Arun Basil Lal

 www.cyborgname.com

Have you ever tried to speak as Arnold in terminator...? If you have tried , then you must have ended up in lots of 'eh' and 'aaa'.Terminator always speaks as a machine would do in technical names like 'Artificial Synthesised Digital Transmission System' or even more complicated way. Such technical names are collectively called cyborg names.

Here is a really cool website that gives the cyborgname for any word which is not more that 10 letters. Visit www.cyborgname.com.

The homepage of the website has the core of the site. A text field will ask your name. The as step two you can select your character. And just submit it to get your cyborg name.
For eg. If you give ARUN, thats my name, you will get Artificial Robotic Utility NeoHuman. Cool.. right..?

The website will give you a picture ( .gif ) with your name and the character you selected. If you cannot copy that picture from the page , you can find it in the cache of your browser ( Look in Temporary Internet Files for Internet Explorer. This folder is in your windows main directory. For opera users look in the 'cache' inside your 'profile' which is in the installed directory of Opera like C:\Program Files\opera8\. )

If you wish to place a similar applet on your website, you will find the code for that too on the homepage.

The website also offers to send you a t-shirt with your cyborgname and the character you selected. But this is not free, you have to pay for it. Visit www.cyborgname.com for more.
