Disabling the update pop-up for McAfee

Posted on Friday, November 10, 2006 by Arun Basil Lal

McAfee provides a good anti-virus protection for your computer. They do provide frequent updates. But on systems without an internet connection the auto-update popup window that pops up every time you turn on your PC may make you feel uncomfortable.
Here is a very simple way to tackle the problem.
This is intended to be done on systems without an internet connection. If you have an internet connection and if you do this, you will be updated in the background. i.e it will not ask your opinion before updating, but updates without your notice.

Open the security center of your McAfee Antivirus.
Click on configure security center. Its on the right side on the 10th edition. It must be somewhere on the very first page. Or you have the updates button on the top row.
Clicking that opens the Security center updates dialog box.
Click on configure. You will get the Automatic Update Options dialog box.
Choose the option to download the updates automatically or install the updates automatically radio button.
That's it. This must solve the problem. As you do not have a connection the popup does not comeup untill you connect to the internet.
